Review: Femme Fatale - Britney Spears
Looks like Ms. Britney Spears has further solidified her condition as Pop`s reigning Queen once again. With the assistance of hitmakers Max Martin and Dr. Luke (along with a lot of other top notch producers), Britney`s seventh studio album Femme Fatale is drenched with pulsating bass lines, mind-blowing breakdowns, and Spears`s all too familiar angelically processed vocals.
At its best, Femme Fatale is a daring departure from the traditional predictably polished pop sound, a transcending kaleidoscope of fierce, fresh, out of this world musical brilliance. The grime-infested "Inside Out" and "Seal It With a Kiss" defiantly blend the dark electronica of dubstep with the blissful purities and sweet of pop, while the dance-heavy track "I Wanna Go" catapults into a whirling, explosive Europop chorus, where she chants "I-I-I wanna go-o-o, all the way-ay-ay takin` out my freak tonight."
Britney never ceases to let up on Femme Fatale. If her end was to trade the almost irresistible dance album of her career, she sure as hell nailed it. The Bloodshy-produced "How I Roll," with its snappy bass line, distorted handclaps, and Brit`s signature sensual panting vocals, proves to be the catchiest, most blatantly pop record on the album. It may not have much potential as a single (unlike "I Wanna Go" and "Inside Out"), but it is a surefire Britney fan favorite.
The penultimate track of Britney`s near-flawless Femme Fatale "Gasoline" is a hell of hard-hitting, guitar-infused synths coupled by Britney`s signature sultry vocal prowess. It is impossible to get the fieriness of this gem with only words. Just go listen to it. The last cut on Femme Fatale "Criminal" is reminiscent to Madonna`s American Life era with its string-infused bass line and soft yet enchanting flute-enhanced hook. It is sweet, symphonic, and satisfying ending to a terrific Britney Spears album.
From the beginning Britney explained that she "cherished to give a boisterous dance record where each song makes you wish to get up and run your body in a different way." The results are fantastic, with Britney delivering arguably her best album to date. Femme Fatale is a radical leap into the next of pop music. Once again, Britney has established the seemingly impossible.
